Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 1st grade dual language class. We are learning Spanish and English in our classroom. Last year they were my virtual kindergarteners and now I looped up with them in 1st grade. We are a title I school where our breakfast and lunch are free for all students. My classroom is very diverse and they really love being in my classroom. I get comments from them like "I love you and don't want to leave you" or "This is the best day ever, I love this class", they are all so loving and kind. I always wish I can do more for them in the class to be successful . I am currently attending a masters course about math, coding, and action research my students are so ready to work on such projects but of course resources always run short. They are all so smart and eager to learn. Most are working so beautifully, reading fluently, able to add and subtract with minimal error. We really are a family community in our class and hope to make learning fun for them.

My Project

I chose manipulatives that have to do with real world connections such as a market stand and plastic healthy choices (grocery shopping), Purchasing with money, telling time, and adding and subtracting. My plan is to incorporate these manipulatives in centers and allow time for structured learning with FreePlay. Though money and time is a learned closer to second grade my students are very capable of learning and i believe being exposed to such manipulatives, this can develop awareness through freeplay. Help my students become social, engaged, learner with real world connections. Thanks!
