Real Life Is Really Cool - Non-Fiction Fun!

My students need 40+ non-fiction books on a variety of topics, such as animals, science, and social studies.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Brill's classroom raised $400

My Students

Learning about real life- that's what non-fiction books are all about. Remember being fascinated by what you were reading and being so excited to teach others about it? That's what I want for my kids. Great non-fiction books are just what they need to get excited as learners and young "teachers."

I have 26 amazing students.

They are 7 and 8 year old dynamos bursting with energy and curiosity. About half of my students speak another language at home. About a third of my students are classified as special education students. I work in an integrated classroom where the special education teacher and myself (general education teacher) work together with all the students in a loving, supportive, enriching environment.

My Project

Second graders are so curious and love to ask questions. They also love being equipped with facts. I'm requesting non-fiction books on topics the students love: dinosaurs, sharks, tigers, weather, and world cultures. The children will learn about the elements of non-fiction books such as the glossary and table of contents. They will discuss their books in groups and partnerships. They will model their own writing after these non-fiction books too.

This year going forward, there is a big push for the children to read and write non-fiction.

Interesting, engaging non-fiction books will provide the students with the tools they need to study non-fiction.
