My Students
Our school is a diverse community of learners and educators, and we are stronger for it. Our students come from all over Oakland, and they bring a variety of languages, experiences, and history with them to our gorgeous 40-acre campus.
We are a Title I school, but despite the lack of funding, we have a robust academic community.
Our students often have many obstacles to navigate, from long commutes, housing insecurity, and institutional disparity, yet they thrive when given the opportunity.
This is the second year of our new Honors English course for 10th-grade students. We encouraged all interested students to apply, and the 120 students who selected it are an incredible and diverse set of scholars.
My Project
After a long year and the experience of learning from home, we are finally getting back into the classroom! As exciting as that is, that means we will need to get some materials to support our students in their in-person learning.
This year we will be reading the novel Long Division by Kiese Laymon and it would be a huge help if we could buy a class set.
Given the amount of screen time each student was forced to endure last year, it would be a real game-changer to have hard copies of the novel that students can use in class and at home this year and in years to come.
