My students need a real sketchpad to draw in rather than using flimsy, lined, notebook paper that can be easily lost.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Los Angeles is prioritizing ARTS education. The district has identified schools in the greatest need of arts education. The district sent ARTS teachers throughout the district to teach Music, Theater, Visual Arts, and Dance to these schools. Most of these students have had no formal arts education.
At my school, many students have never even had the opportunity to mix paints, use oil pastels or critique artwork.
I am teaching Visual Arts to 200 middle school students.
At my school site there are about 750 students from grades 6-8. My school population is 1% African American, 26% Asian, 72% Latino and 1% White (not Latino). There are 27% English Learners, 42% Reclassified ELs (RFEP), and 16% Students with Disabilities (SWD). 91% of the students are Economically disadvantaged and 16% are Identified Gifted.
Your kindness and contribution will be greatly appreciated by hundreds of middle school students.
My Project
Taking notes is an essential skill for all subject areas. Many of my students use looseleaf notebook paper for drawing, taking notes, and writing critical responses to their own art work and others. Most of those papers have ended up in the trash.
By having a real sketchbook, the students will be able to keep a record of their art lessons, critiques, reflections and exercises.
The students will learn to use a variety of media (pencil, pen, colored pencil and charcoal) in a sketchbook. They will be able to use the sketchbook to document their own ideas and creations. They will have a place to practice a variety of techniques.
A sketchbook is where they can plan, revise, and execute their OWN projects.
