My Students
My students are amazing, marvelous, and challenging on many levels. Our new reality of virtual learning comes with its own set of advantages and challenges and my scholars are rising to the challenge.
It is a journey to discover how best to serve every single one of my students and get them ready for college and for life, and I am enjoying the ride.
Our school is a Title I school in Atlanta where one hundred percent of our students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are facing many socio economic challenges that hinder their academic success. As I watch them, enthused in a lesson, I regain my conviction that a future is possible and achievable for all my students.
My Project
“Start by doing what is necessary; then do what is possible; and suddenly, you are doing the impossible," said Francis of Assisi. This has been one of my guiding quotes as an educator. There is so much we can do but once we start with the little thing, it gives us the power to accomplish the impossible.
Watching my scholars-athletes gave me a great eye-opener, the student-athletes are doing something extraordinary; they are keeping up with their grades and practicing hard to represent their school.
It's a long time between lunch and the moment they make it home. Having snacks after school before practice will help fuel them up and get them ready to thrive on the field.
The granola bars, cookies, fruit snacks, and other food resources from this project will make it possible for our players to thrive.
