I teach a group of 25 highly motivated second graders who are eager to learn and explore. They live in a very dangerous blight-filled city where high crime and high poverty have been the norm for more than a decade. Most of them come from single-parent households and many have experienced homelessness; however, they are high-spirited and excited about learning. My class is the largest class in the building and has the highest attendance rates in the school. Rarely is anyone absent because they are passionate about learning.
Puppet shows, songs, dancing and rapping are often incorporated into varied areas of instruction.
Our classroom is never boring and my students are always ready to learn. Their enthusiasm is contagious. Smiles and laughter greet me in the morning and close out my afternoons. It is a pleasure to teach such an awesome group of students. Truly, they are my inspiration.
My Project
My students need additional ink for our donated printer. The printer will be used to publish their writing, complete projects, finish classroom assignments and finish special reports. The printer is a much needed resource for my classroom. We are also in need of magnetic math manipulatives to support centers and learn how to count money. Second grade is a key time in promoting independent thinking and learning. My students will have fun learning as they develop and strengthen organizational and fine motor skills, while building confidence.
Students will be more actively engaged in the learning process when they have the tools needed to succeed.
In today's world, there are many students that do not have access to the technology needed to gain knowledge or complete research projects for school. For this reason, we desperately need a laptop computer, specifically the Dell Inspiron 15. This will help my students to complete their research, classwork, and the online programs required by our district. Allowing the students to have easy access will facilitate their completion of classwork. Students will finally have the technology they need at the tip of their fingers.
