The students at my school are a wonderful group of children. They love to learn new things and to experience new opportunities. My students face barriers that hinder their ability to participate in activities that aren't run by the school. Many of them come from high poverty families. There are students of every racial background in each of my classes from Kindergarden through 8th grade. Some of the students are learning to speak English at school and speak other languages at home. Some of them are from other countries such as Somalia, Bosnia and Nigeria. Others have special needs.
Our school provides more than just learning from books for our children.
It functions as a community center with opportunities for the family. Our school continues to add more opportunities to join clubs and activities after school every year! We look forward to these activities, and the students do too. Education is very important to the families at our school. They chose our school, a neighborhood charter school, because of its diversity, high standards for behavior and excellent instruction. All of the children in our school come from the local neighborhood.
My students have been thriving through different types of sports and after school activities. We have yet to have a middle school girls basketball team, and I am so excited to say that this year we do!! The level of interest in the sport and willingness to learn basketball amazes me because many of these students haven't really played outside of their Physical Education classes.
I would love to start off on the right foot, with the proper equipment so the girls can start their basketball journey off right.
We are in need of Spalding NBA 28.5 inch basketballs that the girls will be able to depend on for practices. We are also looking for scrimmage vests for them to use during practice. These are important for practices so the girls will be able to determine their teams and who to defend when they do not have the ball. We as coaches and the girls are excited to start the season and can't thank you enough for lending a helping hand.
