Help me give my students a wagon, cart, and safety vests to outfit our school's recycling team!

We are a specialized program for students with a variety of needs and challenges in an urban school located in a community that has limited resources. My students have a wide range of needs and strengths, including expressive language delays, sensory and gross motor skills that we focus on throughout the day. As a result, we need to address needs more explicitly and systemically than a typical classroom would. Meeting these specific and individual needs requires materials that are able to adapt to each child and their individual strengths.
By incorporating purposeful play into learning, we are able to create an environment that encourages communication while celebrating success and fostering a sense of community.
By incorporating strategies that support our individual strengths and needs, we are able to help my students reach their potential and soar.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
—Margaret Mead
Learning how to take care of our planet is an important way to develop teamwork and apply our learning in a meaningful way. My students are teaming with others in the Early Childhood Department to create a "Green Team" and coordinate our school's recycling efforts. We will transport each classroom and office's recycling to a centralized location for pick-up by our city. The wagon and cart will allow students to transport, while also receiving sensory support by engaging in the "heavy work" that is listed on some IEPs. We will also learn about the responsibilities and tools for various jobs in order to determine our tasks and what supplies are needed to complete those tasks. We will also help build the identity of our team by customizing uniforms, in the form of vests.
