My Students

I am privileged to be a reading intervention teacher in a low-income school. I work specifically with students who are lagging in reading skills. Most of the readers are in grades K-2. They are all sweet and kind and hardworking. They are tickled to see their own growth as readers. However, most of their instruction in reading has been impacted by the pandemic.

Imagine trying to learn how to read on Zoom!

My Project

All of my students learned to read over Zoom. And, for many, the only books available were online. At this emergent level of reading, finding a good-fit book online can be challenging. Though my peers provided quality instruction over Zoom, it just isn't the same.

These decodable books focus on the specific skills that students are learning and will provide a tangible text that they can bring home and read independently to their parents.

Imagine the confidence this will instill in an emergent reader. As each book is returned, students will receive another one so that these books are available for many future students.
