Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students I work with come from an inner-city and low economically disadvantaged setting. Our school offers an exciting and challenging curriculum that stimulates their learning. We make it fun. We make it exciting. We are free and open to all students and focus on meeting student needs for success.

Children want to learn.

They are curious and ask questions. Their minds are ready to soak up information about their world. But sometimes they need a quiet area. An area with good books to read.

As an Intervention Specialist, I work with special needs students who are in Kindergarten through 8th grade. They need books to open their imagination and help to build their background knowledge.

Our students come to school eager to interact with each other. We set up their environment with materials to grow. Having books to share at school and home will strengthen their love for reading. New and exciting books will allow scholars to enjoy what books have to offer while building self-confidence in their reading. Skills that will help every student for the rest of their lives.

My Project

These books will motivate our scholars to read. Most of the books will have colorful pictures to offer context cues to help with their vocabulary and comprehension skills. The books are culturally appropriate and offer insight into different ethnic heritages and holidays. The books also offer a glimpse into space and discovery. The themes are endless.

Such an exciting way to build background knowledge for our scholars.

Background knowledge is so important in a scholar's success in reading. Skills such as vocabulary and comprehension rely heavily on background knowledge.

Our school wants to help each scholar become a better reader and to develop a love of books. Offering these books will do just that.
