We are in an urban school located in central Virginia with a high poverty rate. My students are demographically very diverse. Our school is open year-round which allows for less summer slump, more opportunities for remediation, and students retain more information.
Our classrooms are in need of many books!
We are starting a reading program called Rooted in Reading in August. We would love to be able to purchase enough books for 4 kindergarten classes. As all kindergartners love books, we are so excited about this program.
My Project
We would love to add some fresh new books to our tattered and torn classroom libraries. As the kindergarten teachers at our school work as a team, we would like to purchase enough books for each kindergarten classroom.
The students will make connections through art projects, movement, and music.
The Rooted in Reading program is designed around these read-alouds. This is essential to our school's mission which is an integrated curriculum of Art and Science. The rich meaningful text that the students will experience will help to deepen their comprehension. It will also spark the joy of learning and reading.
