My Students

Welcome to our classroom! We're a diverse bunch, but what's evident is that we are a community. We are a neighborhood school with about 80% of students walking to or being dropped off at school by a guardian. We are a high poverty school, but my students are motivated to learn and want be engaged in the classroom.

Being an inclusive school, our classroom is full of students with diverse abilities, integrating both general and special education in one room.

These first graders have differing skills, but one thing they have in common is a love for learning.

My first graders are energetic and enthusiastic! They love to sing and get up and move. Unfortunately, many of them are missing basic academic skills in the areas of literacy, math, and writing. This year we are focusing on closing the achievement gap and creating a classroom full of confident, successful students.

My Project

Recent budget cuts affect many districts. Our district purchased a new reading curriculum and writing curriculum, but can only provide one set of books for three classrooms to share. That's one book for over 60 students to share! The logistics of sharing one read-aloud text between three teachers is a nightmare.

Having access to quality, the standards-aligned curriculum is important, but having enough materials for ALL students is just as crucial.

These read-aloud texts come directly from our new curriculum and would help ease the burden of sharing one set of books between three classrooms. The books are both fiction and nonfiction, allowing for diverse genres. Please consider donating to our project and supporting our classroom.
