My students need more nonfiction books to read in our classroom library. I want to provide my class with a variety of nonfiction texts where they can search for answers independently to their many questions.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kindergarteners are naturally inquisitive and question everything. Recently I have been asked, "What makes a shadow?" and "Why is it cold one day and hot the next day?"
Ideally, I want to provide my class with a variety of nonfiction texts where they can search for answers independently to their many questions.
I love that at five years old, the world is a great wonder to them, and they question everything. Many of the students I teach, live in a low socio-economic area and are not exposed to nonfiction texts. By providing my class with more nonfiction texts, my class would be able to hear find out the answers to their many questions.
My Project
My students would be able to use the nonfiction texts to learn more about science and social studies. When I taught a unit on the five senses, there was an excitement in my classroom. Students constantly made connections with what we were learning to their everyday life.
By providing my class with more nonfiction texts, it would open a door for learning to occur naturally in everyday situations and life experiences.
Students would be able to research questions they may have independently.
