This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think back to kindergarten- can you remember the classroom rug you would sit on during circle time, read aloud, and calendar? My students are so eager to learn but are struggling to find a designated space to call their own during carpet time.

Our school is a Title I school where a majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

My 22 five year old students come to school very excited and anxious about all the learning they are going to experience in kindergarten. For many of them, this is their first school experience. I try my best to have the adjustment from home or preschool to our kindergarten class be as easy as possible.

My Project

I am requesting a classroom rug for my kindergarten class. This rug is bright, has the alphabet and a few shapes printed on it, but best of all, has designated squares for all of my students to sit on! This will help my students find their personal space during carpet time where they can focus on learning. Students will no longer sit too far from me as I am teaching or be too close to another student and become distracted. The letters and shapes printed on this rug can be used a learning center where a small group of students can match picture cards to each letter or shape. This rug can also be used as a classroom management tool where I can call on certain colored rows to be dismissed from the carpet to avoid chaos when transitioning from one activity to another. This rug will be very beneficial in our kindergarten classroom!

Donations to this project will make a huge difference as it will help my students become focused learners.

It will make a broad impact on my students as they will have a space to call their own during whole group teaching. We spend a good amount of time on the rug as we listen to books being read aloud and collaborate with classmates to share our ideas during mini lessons. This rug will benefit all of my students year after year so help us become attentive students ready to take on kindergarten!
