My students need hands-on interactive math manipulatives and learning centers that would better enhance their learning and help improve their skills to work independently during math workstations.

My Students
This would be my first year as a Kindergarten classroom teacher in a Title I school, where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. I want to be able to set the foundation for future learning in my students, but my new classroom is very limited in the resources that are available. Many of the students were highly affected and still recovering from the affects of Hurricane Harvey. Due to Hurricane Harvey, many of the students are still displaced and living in shelters. Many are currently living in foster care, being raised by their grandparents, and some are living with older siblings and other relatives. With all those adversities, I understand how important it is to have classroom where the students enter ready to learn, discover, and explore.
My Project
As a first year teacher, I am so excited about having my own classroom, but I am very limited on the resources that I have to be able to better prepare my students for first grade. In my new Kindergarten classroom, I want my students to be able to do a lot of hands-on, independent learning workstations which are totally different from the traditional "centers". I envision my first Kindergarten classroom as being a ditto (worksheets) free environment with EVERYTHING being hands-on interactive learning.
With the math manipulatives I am requesting, my students will be able to better engage in their learning during workstation rotations.
The students will be able to use these math instant learning centers to better meet their needs. Not only would they be engaged and interested in what they are learning, but they will gain more knowledge from the hands-on materials to be used during math workstations. The math instant learning centers will also help my students to stay engaged and complete the tasks for the skills that they are learning. These math instant learning centers will also help my students to reinforce and grasp the concepts that would be taught through hands-on activities and will help my students to succeed academically. Studies show that many low income students do not have access to many things that the regular student may have and other ways of interacting with learning. Resources to use during math instruction such as the counters, ten-frames, foam dice, and dominoes will better help my students interact with learning. Please help support me as I embark on my first year as a classroom teacher and help me get the resources needed for my students to be successful!
