My students need books to be able to compete with schools in our area for the Battle of the Books competition.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Brower's classroom raised $215

My Students
My amazing Battle of the Books crew attends a spectacular Title I school where every student receives free lunch and breakfast. SES is made up of predominantly African-American and Hispanic students. The majority of the students come from poverty stricken and low-income homes which they don't allow to deter them from striving for excellence. With all of the hurdles that they must overcome, this group of 30 has decided to join the Battle of the Books reading club at school to continue to drive their love of learning!
My students in regards to this project, are 30 incredible readers in grades 3-5 with hearts of gold!
These students live above the challenges that they are faced with each and every day which should be commended. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to work with such bright students!
My Project
My students will be using the materials obtained from this project to read and gain knowledge so that they can compete at the County level of the Battle of the Books competition. Several of these students competed at the school level last year but never had the opportunity to compete with other schools. This would be an amazing opportunity for them all!
Our Battle of the Books club is simply a place where students are given the opportunity to read spectacular pieces of literature to promote a love of reading!
Students will also have to complete 10 questions from each of the books that they read to show an understanding of their reading. The incentive for students also includes a healthy competition with other students around the county answering questions about the books they've read. These students have never been a position to be able to participate in something like this and it would really open their eyes to the many genres of reading as well as working as a team for a common goal.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
