Ready, Set...Invent!

Help me give my students Chrome Books to use for research, writing, and invention. Being able to access tools such as Makey Makey invention kits and the Scratch coding app will make classroom innovation accessible.

My Students

STEM education is an exciting mix of hands on learning, collaboration, and problem solving. My students are learning to use and design technology in a project-based setting.

In this class, we challenge ourselves to think, create and collaborate with others.

We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion and diversity. I teach ten sections of STEM to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students; your donation will help over 300 students annually!

My classroom is about working in a team to find solutions to problems and challenges and building skills that have real value in a variety of settings.

My Project

Chrome Books will enable students to participate in more in-depth research and invention projects, allowing them to take advantage of other technology available in the classroom. Using Makey Makey kits with their Chrome Books, students will be challenged to produce technology-enhanced literacy tools such as interactive storybooks and talking word walls. However, to fully harness the power of these tools, students need access to up to date 'laptops'.

Coding Lessons will come to life as students create custom game boards and controllers for their game designs.

As a teacher of a diverse group of learners, I look for technology that is highly adaptable and accessible with high reuse value. Unfortunately, our old MacBooks do not support the latest versions of browsers or software and do not work with hardware used to record sounds and media for use in student projects.

Students are most engaged when they can choose how they will solve a problem; some students are natural artists, some are natural builders, and some love telling stories. Interactive invention projects and digital collaboration allow students new to STEM to explore the engineering design process and to approach invention using skills that they are already confident in.
