This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
MCHS is home to some of the most independent, hard-working teenagers I have ever met! The majority of our students are at risk learners and students with special needs; many of whom are living below the poverty line. Students are primarily latino, including some who are English Language Learners. They are high school students in an early college setting preparing themselves to enter the world as young adults. Our school is a safe zone, full of caring individuals who treat our student body as family. Our school is a consortium school, empowering students through multiple modes of learning and exploration.
Students at our school are natural born leaders and out-of-the box thinkers.

My Project
Many of my students are natural born leaders ready to take over the world. Providing them with an opportunity to harness their leadership skills while supporting the youth of Cabarete, Dominican Republic through arts and literacy is an invaluable experience. This particular group of youth leaders has spent the year acting as the "voice" for the student body, creating initiatives to improve the school community. After seeing the impact they can have within the school, students are ready to branch out to the greater New York City area as well as think about the change they can make on a global scale. We are excited to have students share their leadership skills in collaboration with the DREAM project.
