Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are bright and inquisitive. They are unique and report to school eager to learn and ready to try new things. Although many of them deal with the unthinkable and suffer through the unimaginable, some way somehow, they find it within themselves to persevere. There is a desire that lives deep within them that pushes them to their highest potential. When others say they can't, they say WE CAN!

This is the number one reason why our classroom is centered around kindness.

I believe it is essential to create an environment where my students feel safe and where their voices are heard. We begin each day in our classroom building friendships and cultivating relationships.

My Project

I strongly believe that before a student can learn, they need to feel safe and respected. For this reason, we start each day reading a social-emotional book, then we have discussions based off that book. We close our circle time by allowing each student the opportunity to praise another student for something positive they have seen or heard.

This project will help me give my students daily, social-emotional stories to help facilitate quality conversations.

These are powerful conversations where students feel free to not only discuss the social-emotional issues from the book, but also share about their personal experiences from their own lives.
