This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have students who have arrived enthusiastically and eagerly to learn. Many of my students are aware that they are struggling to grasp fundamental concepts and are begging for help. Others are completely unaware that they are not at grade level because they are at the same level as many of their peers.
These are wonderful, caring, compassionate, considerate and respectful students!
They want to help and be known in a positive light. Many overcome personal challenges to arrive at school on time every day, yet they still show up ready to learn.
My Project
By using Time Edge news magazine, students will remain informed of current events. Most importantly, the magazine is written at a level that they can access the information. Additionally, the Scholastic Magazines will engage my students with leveled reading that is popular with the youth of today. The literature magazines provide an opportunity to experience a variety of authors and expand their reading repertoire.
My students are eager to learn, yet they are struggling to reach grade level standards.
The magazines will provide material that is not so lengthy that it discourages the challenged student it will help them build the reading stamina to tackle the longer readings in the future. Additionally, the magazines address issues that are relevant to my students. The books of class plays encourages my students to actively participate and illustrate their comprehension and creativity as they read and perform the plays. This variety will help my students realize the joy of reading and learning. The coloring books will provide a creative brain break when those are needed along the way to attaining our goals.
