Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve our high expectations every day.

Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Most of my Intervention students have limited resources outside of school, so school may provide their only chance to experience strategic and engaging academic activities. My goal, every year, is to create a learning environment that is warm, safe, and inviting while having high expectations for my Intervention students' success. Many of my students are reading at least one year below grade level. Guided Reading has significant benefits that help students develop strong reading skills. It is one of the most effective tools not only to increase reading fluency, but also helps students develop reading comprehension skills. These Guided Reading materials will be used to meet students at their current level and build upon these skills to move to them to grade level achievement.

My Project

My Intervention students need extra time to develop their reading and writing skills. I work with my students in small groups every day to help them get to grade level proficiency. These learning tools will help my students respond to the high-interest reading books we use during Intervention time. My students will use these binders to create their own journals to use during Intervention time. With all of their writing in one place, students can easily see the progress they have made in their responses to the Guided Reading books we have read together. Guided Reading journals are a great way for my students to write about what they have read and show true comprehension. They love to write and share their understanding of new concepts, question and read each other's responses. These materials are just what we need to accomplish our reading achievement goals!
