My students need snacks, supplies, and hygiene products to start their day!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a Science teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Due to their age and the challenges they face, not having the necessities they need in life can have a severe impact on their confidence, resulting in low academic and personal success.
My students are curious about a world that is beyond their doorstep.
I teach students with disabilities who thrive with a hands on approach.
Many of my students have a lot of needs outside of school that may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". By helping my students in a positive way, not just academically, I am hoping to inspire each of my students to continue on a path of success and promise.
My Project
By receiving these materials students can concentrate on the importance of learning and not worry about the materials they need. Many of my students give up before they enter the classroom because they are not prepared or they are hungry.
Many of my students show up to class on a daily basis without the materials they need to even begin the class.
The classroom supplies, such as pens and pencils, will help to take the burden away from them of not being prepared. I teach 7th grade pre-teen boys and girls. Many of them are just becoming aware of their own bodies. Most of them do not have access to deodorant, wipes, sanitary napkins, and cleaning products.
It is difficult for many of my students to worry about their education when they haven't had anything to eat since the day before - during school lunch. Providing them with a quick breakfast or afternoon snack before going home, will alleviate so much worry for them.
By just staking away the worry of what they are missing - it is setting students up for success. When they come in with nothing, they have been set up for failure. This has been an ongoing problem for many of my students. One that I want to help them avoid.
