Help me give my students notebooks and folders for this upcoming school year so they can feel ready to succeed in my classroom. These supplies will help my students stay organized throughout the year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I public middle school in Brooklyn. My students come from many different countries, including Mexico, the Dominican Republic, China, the United States, Yemen, Pakistan, Jamaica and Ecuador. Many of my students have special needs and most receive free lunch at school. Together, we study Social Studies and learn about the values, customs, and beliefs that have shaped America's history. As you can imagine, my students' identities truly enrich the learning inside our classroom.
In my classroom, students learn about Native American cultures, exploration and colonialism, and the formation of American government.
We read many primary sources together, and learn from historically marginalized voices and populations. Hearing unfamiliar or lesser told historical accounts pulls my students in, gets them questioning, and make them invested to do the hard work that I ask of them. My students are expected to read critically, analyze multiple historical perspectives, and reflect all that they have learned in their writing. It is challenging work, but every year my students continue to impress me by asking thoughtful questions and placing themselves in the shoes of those who have come before them.
My Project
My students have had such a difficult 18 months. Their worlds (like ours) have been turned upside down. Many of my seventh graders haven't entered a school building since March 2020. They haven't spent a full year in a school building since the fourth grade. But now we're back full-time and they are "officially" in middle school.
Getting my middle schoolers organized every year is such a Herculean task.
Now, more so than ever, my students need structure in their lives. With this project, they will be provided the type of consistency they need to succeed in my classroom. Every student will have a notebook, strictly for Social Studies. They will receive a different colored folder for each marking period to keep their classwork and homework in one place. They will use the brand new sharpies to label their notebooks and folders so they will be easy to identify when they look in their book bags.
Little things like this will go such a long way as my students transition back to school in person and full time.
