This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My cheerleading team is a part of a STEM Magnet program and are an outstanding group of kids with diverse interests, academic levels, and life goals. Majority (80%+) of the students come from low income or economically disadvantaged homes. Cheer is not a part of the school budget, and they just do not have the funds to pay for all the items they need to be successful or competitive.

These girls are vibrant and full of life!

They are they soul and spirit of our school. They are a very diverse group of kids in the sense that some are new to sports and others have been playing their whole lives. We would love to see them have the clothing, supplies, and lessons they need in order to participate and be successful in competitive cheer.

My Project

The Cheerleading/Gymnastics Mats will allow my cheerleaders to learn and grow their skills in flexibility, tumbling, and stunting. They will have technical lessons in tumbling, stunting and extending their flexibility, however, this is not possible on the hard gym floor without injury. The water bottles will allow them to stay hydrated throughout practices, games, and competitions. With COVID still being an active issue, the girls are becoming dehydrated due to not being able to purchase water or beverages on a daily basis and not being able to utilize the school's water fountains.
