My Students
My Students are beginning to read and want to take home their own newspapers, so that they can share with their families what they are learning in school. Several of the children do not want to read as they say "books for babies" but really want to begin reading "big kid books"!
My children are coming into my pre school classroom from situations that are unable to provide age appropriate reading materials for them.
In spite of this hardship the families of my students value and want to provide a good education for their children.
While some children are learning to speak English, others are on the verge of reading and really want to read by themselves. The children all love the idea of being able to take home their very own news papers to share with their families what he/she has learned in school.
My Project
What a better way to encourage reading than to have books the children can borrow and begin reading in English. These books would also help family members who are learning to read English themselves.
All of the children are currently taking home the Let's Find Out in English. However, several of the children would get more from this this newspaper if it were sent home in Spanish.
I feel that in order to do my job as an educator it is so important to provide my children with the materials they need to keep their ever growing curiosity, excitement, and love for reading and learning alive!
I want my preschoolers to enter Kindergarten fully prepared and ready to learn at their highest potential. Providing these materials for the children will certainly give them the head start they need.
