What do you do every day? We are shaking and moving every day, moving from centers to whole group instruction and back to centers again!
I teach first grade in a Title 1 urban school devoted to helping students of all socioeconomic backgrounds find and develop their own special talents.
We believe that every student can be a leader when given the opportunity and the proper support. First graders are wiggly, animated, social, and so excited to learn! They need lots of opportunities to explore, make connections, and practice what they've learned.
My Project
Small group instruction and independent centers give students the opportunity to practice academic objectives, grow and develop important social and emotional skills, and move throughout the classroom getting all those wiggles out in productive and developmentally appropriate ways. All this movement is great for students but takes a lot of work to organize.
Your donation will provide students with the supplies that will help me to organize their materials so that students can more easily find the items they need to work in each independent station. In addition, you are providing them with journals to practice creative writing, headphones for listening and computer stations, and individual miniature clocks to help them practice time to the hour and half hour.
Your donation does more than you know.
You provide tools that make learning engaging and exciting for 20 - 25 first graders; you help build a cheerful caring classroom where students learn about and explore the world they live in; and you support growth and leadership.
I am delighted each year by the anticipation with which my students greet every school day. I believe their excitement is directly related to the kind of classroom you help me create. I can never thank you enough.
