Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in central Connecticut. There are over 1600 students at our school and over 80% receive free and reduced-price lunch. This year, I am teaching (and learning from) 125 of these students in my 10th grade biology class.
Our school is incredibly diverse; bringing students together from a large variety of different backgrounds to share their many different voices, opinions, and experiences.
My students will use the knowledge they gain from their science classes to help them to become good citizens of science, work with others, and solve problems in their future classes and beyond.
My Project
Our Biology class focuses on answering questions about everyday phenomenon, by putting our individual experiences and knowledge together, to form explanations. This classroom highlights student achievement through individual work and team collaboration.
The tools I am requesting will enhance this community collaboration among my students.
The whiteboard (and markers) will be used so that students can record their questions for the class. The pencils and tissues will keep kids working when they'd otherwise have to break. The headphones help them focus individually on tasks and the clipboards will allow students to move from behind their desks to communicate with one another. All of these, along with the tape, wipes, and file folders will help me get my classroom ready to roll for the coming school year. We're ready to go!
