This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My prekindergarten students are very curious and enthusiastic! They enter my classroom every day excited and eager to learn. They are constantly asking questions, making discoveries, and trying to make sense of the world around them.
My prekindergarten students attend a Title I school in a large urban district.
All of the students at the school qualify for the Federal Free Lunch Program. The students are predominately Latino and the majority of them are English Language Learners. Despite their disadvantaged background, my students are enthusiastic children who enter my classroom every day ready to learn.
My Project
Providing each student with a Transition to School Backpack will give them everything they will need to prepare them for a successful school year. Included in each backpack is a 3-month calendar filled with hands-on activities students can complete at home or at school. Each backpack also contains tactile number cards, counting links, foam letters, a draw and write journal, a pair of scissors, crayons and more! Working with the materials in these backpacks, my students will also develop their social-emotional skills. They will have the tools necessary to feel competent, successful and motivated to continue learning during these uncertain times.
