This year, I have 15 sweet and spunky kids, including a few SpEd students, who are in a semi-inclusion model between my classroom and a resource classroom. COVID-19 and distance learning was a challenge for my students, and many of them are learning foundational reading skills. Learning basic reading skills throughout this pandemic has been extremely challenging, and my students have not been able to perform at grade level due to some of these hurdles.
Pre-pandemic, our school emphasized collaborative learning and small group instruction, but social distancing in and outside of the classroom made cooperative learning almost non-existent.
I believe that my students learn best when they can learn from one another, and I'd like to provide my students with more opportunities to learn alongside each other in small groups. With these phonics, word work, and comprehension center activities, I’ll be able to create meaningful learning rotations to meet my students at their level and help bridge the gap in Language Arts before they move onto third grade! Thank you for your help!
