Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Mount Auburn is a community of teachers, students, and families that have been working hard the last couple of years. These are students who come from low-income households, who have family struggles, and who cannot read at their grade level or with their peers. Some students receive assistance for clothing, school supplies, or food. These little scholars carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, but when they are here, their determination to become better has been apparent the last few years with their growth and achievement.
My Project
Over 55% of my students do not classify as reading "on grade level" with reading levels ranging from late Kindergarten to beginning 4th grade. Reluctant readers need books that are interesting and engaging to their lives and interests so that they will want to continue reading page after page.
By supporting my project, you will be helping me add relevant books of interest to my students to encourage all of my readers to get lost in a new world during independent reading time and prepare to send them off to middle school!
These students have demonstrated week after week their determination to go to sixth grade next year, now we just need to boost up their reading ability so that they can continue to be successful once they leave the classroom.
