My Students
My students are in the autism spectrum disorder. It is hard for them to focus, make eye contact and communicate They have a lot of sensory issues that make it difficult to complete a given task. Paying attention is always a challenge for my. students. They can be easily distracted by stimulants ranging from the texture of their clothing to bright lights to sounds and more. They may also find it difficult to focus on information that is outside their range of interest.
My Project
My students show many "stimming" behaviors like rocking, fidgeting, twirling or rubbing their hands especially during stressful times. Sensory chairs can help my students who constantly fidget when seated in the classroom. The fidget toys can provide a more appropriate replacement behavior that is less distracting or less stigmatizing. The therapy brushes can improve process sensory information. The noise reduction headphones can help them cope with the crowded rooms in school. The mindfulness maze boards will improve their decision-making skills and help in reduce anxiety.
Using these sensory items will allow my students to increase their concentration and improve their life at school and in social situation.
