My Students

Remember when social studies was just opening a book and reading for vocabulary? Well, I sure do! What if students today had something that they could relate to as they read about social studies ?! That would make it more interesting and engaging for them.

My classroom is full of children eager and ready to learn!

As a beginning teacher I don't have many materials, so I'm looking for a way to make social studies relevant and interesting for my students. My students will use the materials requested during social studies, which is 45 minutes each day. During this time period we do tons of different things including projects and scavenger hunts. My students already LOVE to read so by teaching them through various texts, they will feed on all the new information that they are learning and be engaged while wanting to learn more.

My Project

My students will use these materials to stay engaged during social studies. These materials will make social studies more fun for them instead of opening a text book and reading for information. By having copies of TIME for kids and Scholastic news, students will be able to read kid friendly articles about what is going on in the world today. This will help them become more aware of what is going on in the world globally. The easy reader biographies and paperback biographies will allow my students to have information about people in history at their fingertips. Many of my students don't have access to a computer at home, so this will be one way that they can use these books for projects and reading for fun. Overall, I believe that by having these new materials for social studies it will make things come to life more for them. By giving to this project, you will allow students to be more engaged during our social studies period.

By donating to this project you will make social studies less boring and more fun and engaging to my students.

Students will also become better readers by expanding their knowledge on many different current events.
