My students need comfortable, warm places to sit on our cold tile floor, including a Flagship Addition rug, two bright rocking chairs, and three other colorful, educational rugs.
My new Kindergarten students are eager learners. They come from many backgrounds, and a quarter of them speak or hear languages other than English at home. They love math, reading, science and everything else about school. Their favorite activities are reading and "playing" while learning.
This year in Kindergarten will be the first formal educational experience for many of my students.
They love to share stories and read with their families and with classmates. Math, technology and writing are other ways they enjoy sharing and learning. We are a Title I school, and almost 50% of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch.
My Project
Over the summer, I changed rooms and grades within my school, and I find myself starting over with a new room with new requirements. My Kindergarten classroom is large and bright. We have a big rug for whole-group learning, but the rest of our floor is cold, bare tile. Kindergarten students love to sit on the floor, or have other comfortable seating, while they work and learn independently. Unfortunately, our floor is too cold and hard for them.
Warm, inviting areas for reading, writing, math, and working with technology will motivate my students to work independently in this room that is new to all of us.
They'll have a beautiful, colorful Furnish My Place, Ottomanson or Flagship educational rug for each designated independent learning station. In the reading area, students will enjoy sitting on Jack Post brightly-colored rocking chairs as they practice the skills they've learned. The rugs and chairs are high quality and durable, and will last through several years and help many students. My project also includes three retro-style microphone/earphone headsets, which will allow students to listen to reading and to record their reading on iPads without outside interference.
