Reading, Writing and Keeping Safe!

Help me give my students portable lap desks for flexible seating. An additional set of Elephant and Piggie books in the classroom will allow us to quarantine books for safety.

My Students

My kindergarten students are a group of 5 and 6-year olds who learn with EASE: that is, they are eager, adaptable, social, and enthusiastic learners! They are eager to learn about the world. They are social individuals who love interacting with each other. They enthusiastically show up to learn each day.

These resilient kindergarteners will be attending school in August as coronavirus cases surge in our state.

Our school is located in Hawaii on the windward side of Oahu. Our students come from different ethnic backgrounds, most predominantly Pacific Islander (28%) and multiple ethnicities (29%). Thirty-four percent of our families receive free or reduced-cost lunches.

My Project

My kindergarten students blossom as writers and daily journal writing becomes an anticipated part of our day.

I would like to inspire my young writers by giving them comfortable seating options while keeping them safely distanced.

The lap desks will allow students to move to a quiet spot in the room where they can write in an upright position while keeping a safe distance from their peers.

My students love the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems! Having an additional set of books in the room will allow us to quarantine books for safety and still have books available for reading.
