My Students
Dodgeball, volleyball, basketball... are there any lessons in Physical Education that don't require a ball? Yes! PE should be just as rigorous as any other subject.
I have the privilege of teaching students in grades PreK - 8 at a public school in Baltimore City.
In the first few days of school, many of my students are surprised to learn that PE isn't just about playing games. Most of our daily lessons will require some reading and writing as well. I want my students to be great athletes and strong examples of sportsmanship. But at the same time, I want them to learn about the history behind different sports, current trends in athletics, and different ways to build a healthy mind and body.
My Project
Because our gym is also my classroom space, my students need a white board and dry erase markers. Rather than just listening to me lecture, they need to be able to see names, places, charts, and diagrams actually written down. The white board surface will also be used as a screen for our projector. A white board would help students to focus in on key pieces of information, and would give them a place to refer back to when taking notes.
Please help convince my students that reading and writing don't just happen in Language Arts classrooms.
We have a lot to learn in Physical Education as well. A white board is such a common classroom tool; it's time that one was used in the gym!
