This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our high school students have the opportunity to earn a two year Associates degree while enrolled. All students will earn their degree free of charge while attending high school. Our school is a Title I school and 87% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch.
My students are voracious readers and I struggle to keep up with new, exciting novels to have them read.
I created a reading club for my students and we meet once a month. All of my students cannot afford to purchase novels regularly, so I am looking for help to purchase books for the book club.
My Project
These materials will help my students complete their reading notes assignments. Students are required to annotate the text with specific types of notes, and they need to use sticky notes. Sticky notes are expensive, so help purchasing them is greatly appreciated. These note taking strategies will help prepare them for high school and beyond.
My students are always asking for new novels to read independently.
I chose a few novels that students have mentioned to me that they would like to read. I share chapters and sections of the novels with them in class to entice them, but I cannot afford to buy all of the books my students want. I love to see their interest in learning, so I try to do what it takes to get the novels for them to read.
