My students need a recording pen and reader's theater scripts to help them read with feeling and fluency in third grade.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Douglas Swanson's classroom raised $560

My Students
Read it again, this time with more feeling. These are words you often hear during our reading lessons. My students are more than willing to oblige!
I teach a class of twenty-five energetic and excited third graders.
Although they vary in their interests and talents, one thing they all have in common is their love for drama! They revel in opportunities to share their personalities through theater. Even though we would be considered a low income, high needs school, the students in my classroom deserve only the label of thespians.
My Project
I am writing this grant to request an audio recording pen, the labels that can be used with the pen, and a variety of reader's theater plays. We will be using the pen to record our reading and monitor our reading progress throughout the year. The labels that go with the pen will go inside each child's reading notebook, and will allow us to easily see the progress we are making. In addition, the books will help us to have plenty of reading materials at a variety of levels that will help my students practice their reading in fun and engaging ways. Together, this grant will allow students to grow in their reading fluency, which is a predictor of students' future success.
Reading is fundamental, but it is also fun.
Donating to this grant will allow students to engage in authentic reading experiences, shape their love of acting, and contribute to their overall academic success. Who knows, maybe one day you'll see their names in lights.
