Nobody wants to read old news, neither do my students.
My classroom is made up of 21 students ranging in grades second through sixth.
The classroom is a Learning Center where students who have less than 50% of their school day in a small group environment or more than 50% of their day (but less than 75%) in a small group environment are enrolled. Their disabilities range from Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairments, Other Health Impairments, Autism, Emotional Disturbances, and Visual Impairments.
I love my students so much. They work so hard for me each day and I am trying to provide them a classroom that is stimulating academically so that they can take the information they are learning in my class and use it in their general education class and ultimately in life.
My Project
My students need Weekly Readers that are from our current year. I have been using Weekly Readers as a part of their weekly homework, but unfortunately I do not have an updated subscription, so I have been pulling from the last time I had a subscription which was in 2009. Many will remember that this was when President Obama had just been elected. Thankfully he is in the process of running for reelection and some of my students have not noticed they are from 2009. I want to have them read current news. With this new subscription, I would be able to give them the most current and update to date world news. We also need fun, smelly pencils to encourage my students to complete their assignments. Many of my students find doing work challenging and these pencils would motivate them to complete work because of the diverse smells.
Please help our classroom read current national and international news through the Weekly Reader program.
Reading old news is boring. Also, by having the smelly pencils I can ensure that my students want to complete the assignments they are given.
