Having the opportunity to teach at the school that I was a teacher's assistant at for seven years is merely a dream. As I enter my 11th year in education and 4th year as a classroom teacher, I am beyond excited! I teach at a Title I, partial magnet school in North Carolina where the students are introduced to the arts in addition to their academics. Working at a Title I school means that at least 75% of the student body is at the poverty level.
I love the fact that my students are curious about EVERYTHING!
They love making real world connections from the topics that we are exploring. If I could describe my students using four words, I would say:
Curious: They question what they don't know, understand, and what they want to learn more about.
Talkative: Everyone has a voice.
Active: Learning while we move.
Team building: Working collaboratively together. Together Everyone Achieves More.
I am beyond excited for what the school year will bring us and thankful for the opportunity to watch my students GROW!
My Project
The current state of my classroom library is lacking books that spark the interest of my students, as well as books that they can read at their individual reading level. A number of the books in my library have photocopied from Raz-Kids, are missing pages, or have been donated to me from previous teachers. My classroom library plays a vital role in my classroom.
Our classroom library is where I would like my students to come together with a good book and get lost in conversation about the story they are reading.
Donating to this project will allow me to provide a Leveled Books Classroom Library for my students to develop a love for reading, while helping them to flourish academically.
