Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
ÂÂThe more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you go. This simple quote by Dr. Seuss exemplifies the true meaning of reading. The more we read, the better we become at reading, the more knowledge we gain, and the more joy we receive.
Hardworking, enthusiastic learners best describe the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade children I teach.
Like most students, they have hopes and dreams of going to college and securing admirable careers as adults. Although the students in my class are second language learners, come from low socioeconomic homes, and have learning disabilities, I believe given the appropriate supports to meet their challenging learning needs their future dreams can become a reality.
My Project
My students will be using the leveled books, while working in small groups, during guided reading instruction. These resources will provide the necessary tools to help build vocabulary, increase their reading fluency, and improve their comprehension skills. Students will also have the opportunity to read these books with a buddy or independently and take comprehension quizzes on them. The points students earn are considered for reading awards during Friday Flag Salute.
Due to learning disabilities, my students are normally two to three grade levels below their peers academically.
The donation of books will provide a variety of high-interest reading material, at my students' instructional reading levels, to help improve vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and fluency skills.
