I am a third grade teacher at a rural Title I elementary school. Some of my students come from homes that are unable to provide for anything more than the basic needs. When they come to school, I try to provide as many opportunities as I can of things for them to experience and learn about that they may not otherwise get to do.
My students are eager to learn and get excited about any opportunities that are provided to them to learn something new.
My students enjoy learning through hands on and engaging experiences, especially with topics related to science and math. By incorporating these topics with reading a variety of texts, the students will benefit from having the exposure.
My Project
Although we are no longer is our physical school space, I am excited to be able to share this incredible book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, with each of my students.
I can't wait to see the excitement on their faces and the increased level of engagement in our virtual classroom when every child has a copy of the text that we are using for the read-aloud.
This book is one of the recommended texts for our fourth quarter language arts modules. We will use this text to connect to the struggles around the world, and the ingenuity and hard work that can help us to overcome obstacles.
This book is just perfect for helping students to see that great things can rise up from adversity and that even though they are young, their ideas and contributions are valuable. Working together, there is nothing that we can not accomplish! I want my students to know that they have the power to become positive agents for change!
