This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year our class has kindergarten buddies. We have done art projects and PE together. The students now want to do reading groups with them. Having the round desk will give them an opportunity to sit and read to their little friends. In addition, on beautiful days we can use the sitting pads to read outside with our buddies. These opportunites to read to students younger helps our class build confidence in their reading abilities. They are also showing the younger students how to enjoy reading. The third graders get to choose a chapter book and every few days we meet with our buddies to read to them another chapter. It is wonderful to watch the students' fluency increase from reading aloud. In addition, our class is becoming role models for the younger students.
