My Students
My students are creative, inquisitive, and resilient. My school has a diverse background of learners from Hawai'i, Samoa, Tonga, Asia, and the mainland United States. Their diversity is reflected in their passions and interests, strengths and values, and unique perspectives.
My students are on the cusp of adulthood and looking to build futures with purpose and opportunity.
My Project
Every quarter, my junior and senior English Language Arts students choose a novel to read on their own. At the end of the quarter, they do a project on their chosen book and present it to their classmates, rating it on a 5-point scale. Student choice is so important when encouraging young learners to read.
This is a curated selection of novels to expand my in-classroom library to include Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hawaiian, Vietnamese, Spanish, and French authors.
This project will allow me to create a lending library in my classroom and have these books available for students at all reading levels to access and use.
