Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my school are demographically 95% below poverty level and 80% English as a Second Language. Additionally, my classroom is a diverse mix of students including, general education, special education, gifted & talented, English as a Second Language, and students with "other" learning disorders. Despite their challenges, my students are excited and eager to learn, caring to others, and passionate about their hobbies. As reading is a crucial part of learning and success in school, students are required to read for 20 minutes independently during school, and 30 minutes every day at home. With limited resources, finding engaging materials can be a challenge. Graphic novels not only engage students, but they help them develop their reading skills to advance to more challenging texts. My students would be very appreciative and would benefit greatly from this project. Thank you in advance!

My Project

These novels and graphic novels with allow my students to have engaging reading materials readily available to them. I believe in fostering a love of reading to encourage life-long learning in my students. My students are highly drawn to graphic novels. These books will be a stepping stone in their journey of reading and learning, as the two go hand-in-hand. During their 20-minutes of independent reading, they will be able to choose a book from the class library. My students will also be able to check out the book as they are required to read at home 30 minutes every day.
