Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students amaze me every day with their curious nature and willingness to learn. I teach in a 2nd grade classroom in a suburb of Houston. My classroom of learners are over 80% free and reduced lunch in a Title 1 school. Our school is made up of half bilingual Spanish and the other half English classes. My classroom is a Dual Language classroom. My students learn half a day in English and the other half in Spanish. Many of my students were directly affected by Hurricane Harvey and school is a place for them to get away and have fun learning. They love anything to do with technology and reading fun with engaging books.
My Project
I want to bring technology experiences into all aspects of my students' learning. The Kindle Fires will allow the students to read through technology and improve their reading levels by reading online books. They will also provide a tool for research and learning apps for workstations.
Technology will provide my students a platform to improve their reading and will provide a greater opportunity to be more actively engaged in their learning.
The nonfiction readers will allow students to do research and aid in improving literacy skills like text features, vocabulary, and main idea. My students love to learn about animals, people in history, and new science information.
