Reading - The Foundation to Everything

Help me give my students a classroom library that will enhance their motivation and independent reading engagement through choices in their reading.

My Project

This is my second year teaching first grade at a Title I school. My students come to me each day speaking various languages and experiences. One commonality that they share is their love of learning. My classroom library will provide students with an opportunity to build reading independence, increase vocabulary/language, and improve reading comprehension.

Allowing students the autonomy to choose what they read will only help them build their foundational reading skills to support their academic growth and development in years to come.

The books chosen for this project are decodable, which play an important role in phonics instruction and build confidence in young readers. I look forward to watching my young readers become lifelong readers. The book bins will be used so that books can be placed on student tables for easy access.
