Reading the Constitution, Learning our Rights, and Changing the World
My students need a class set of the United States Constitution: A Graphic Adaptation in order to learn more about their rights as inhabitants of this country.
My students have big dreams, but as a school we sometimes lack the means to turn these dreams into reality. They aspire to travel, go to college, and obtain stable careers that provide them with satisfaction as well as opportunities to help their families. My students live in a vibrant community that is rich in culture, despite lacking economic resources.
My students are diverse Latinx leaders, leading change in the school and community as they advocate for LGBT and immigrant rights.
I believe in my students, and am committed to providing them with the same resources that students at the most affluent schools receive.
My Project
Around the nation, youth from Florida, DC, Chicago, Los Angeles are connecting with one another, organizing, and demanding to be heard. My students are part of this movement, and need a class set of the United States Constitution: A Graphic Adaptation, so that they can further understand their civil liberties and their responsibilities as citizens. The graphic adaptation makes these concepts accessible to learners of all language abilities, and allows for immigrant students who are still learning English to be part of the conversation and movement for change.
Youth are leading the movement for change in this country, learning about their rights and demanding that this country fulfill the promises written in our founding documents.
This project will further support their work, providing students with a springboard for civics-based discussion and action.
