Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every time the children enter the school library, I want them to be excited to learn about all the new people, places, lessons, and journeys they will be able to encounter during their library time!
This is my first year as the school librarian at this elementary school.
Our schools is home to almost 600 eager learners in grades Pre-K through 5th grade. Our students come from diverse backgrounds. Some of our families face a daily struggle just to provide for their families basic needs. I am very excited to have the opportunity to bring many positive library experiences to our school.
My Project
My students need 2 copies of 2020-2021 Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominee Books such as A Wolf Called Wander, No More Poems!: A Book in Verse That Just Gets Worse, and A Place to Land: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Speech that Inspired a Nation. My students will use these books throughout the year to participate in the Bluebonnet Club at school. The children will read the selections such as Nightbooks and then discuss them with other students that have read the same book. Students that read at least five of the Bluebonnet book nominees will have the chance to vote on next year's Bluebonnet selections. The students in the Bluebonnet Club will also compete with other schools on their knowledge of these books, create book projects and be overall ambassadors for these selections.
A donation to this project will bring great literature into our school.
It will also give my students the literature needed to participate in the Bluebonnet Club which will give my students the opportunity to be exposed to great literature and develop a life-long love of reading.
