My Students
Reading is a necessary life skill. The most important foundations of reading begin in the first grade. What better way to get students interesting and engaged in the learning process than using technology? Reading + Technology = First Grade Success!
I have a fairly diverse class.
I have several Hispanic students and one student from Africa. I have students that live in all different types of family units with varying economic statuses. My school is in a lower-income area, just slightly higher than being considered a Title 1 school.
My Project
By having iPad Minis in the classroom, I can have students read and listen to digital stories. We implement the Daily 5 program in my classroom and "Listening to Reading" is one of the key elements to this Literacy program. The iPads would be a great way to encourage literacy goals in a fun, engaging way.
The majority of my students are below grade level in reading.
My hope is that these iPad Minis will help my students listen to fluent readers and work towards their own reading goals. There are many apps available to beginning readers that will teach concepts in ways a teacher can't. Technology is a necessary component in today's classroom.
