Reading Takes You Places!

My students need a book cart, soft seats, labeling pockets and book bins to create a place to display books and sit to read comfortably in the classroom rather than sitting at the hard student desk and chairs.

My Students

Do you remember the hard chairs you had to sit on in school or the shelves of books you had to sort through to find books that peaked your interest?

My students are hard-working, dedicated 2nd graders who love to read and pretend they are the characters in the books they are reading.

They have finished 1st grade with a flourish and are eager to continue reading as much as they can. Their reading levels range from BR to 500 based on SRI assessments, so having a wide variety of books is going to be important in pushing them to increase their own personal levels.

My Project

I have previously taught 4th and 5th grade and am moving to 2nd this year. I would like to create an inviting, colorful, reading corner for my students to relax and read comfortably. I believe that giving students a display in which they can visually see the books more easily to find what interests them allows for more time to read and less time sorting through bins or shelves of books. I also believe that giving them a comfortable place to sit rather than having them constantly sit in their hard desk chairs will also entice them to read more. We need a book cart, soft seats, labeling pockets and book bins to create a place to display books and sit to read comfortably.

Reading more leads to better readers.

Better readers leads to higher academic achievement. What better way to encourage students to read by giving them a warm, colorful, inviting place to read in? This project is the first in a serious of projects to provide just that.
